Hands-on workshop on pediatric dentistry held at IADSR

LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) hosted a comprehensive one-day workshop on Pediatric Dentistry. This event was an integral part of the 17th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD) and aimed to equip participants with advanced skills in pediatric dental care under expert guidance.

Dr. Arham Nawaz Chohan, a highly esteemed Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at CMH Lahore, served as the workshop facilitator. The session provided an in-depth exploration of key topics in pediatric dentistry, offering participants both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

Dr. Chohan emphasized the significance of proper examination and treatment planning in pediatric dental patients, detailing its benefits and the risks associated with unplanned procedures. He discussed critical principles of treatment planning, the role of antibiotics in children, and effective behavioral management techniques tailored for young patients.

One of the highlights of the workshop was an extensive session on pulp therapy in primary dentition. Dr. Chohan covered the process from clinical diagnosis to treatment, ensuring participants gained a thorough understanding. Attendees practiced posterior stainless steel crown and anterior strip crown placement on typhodonts under his supervision, tackling real-time complications with expert support.

The workshop also delved into managing trauma in primary and permanent teeth, with detailed discussions on pulp therapy in young permanent teeth, iatrogenic cases in pediatric dentistry, and the importance of radiography in primary dentition. Advanced topics such as apexogenesis, apexification, and space management in children were covered alongside procedures like MTA pulpotomy, reattachment of fractured tooth fragments, and administering local anesthesia in children.

Interactive sessions enriched the learning experience, enabling participants to engage directly with the facilitator and address specific challenges in pediatric dentistry. The workshop concluded with the achievement of its desired learning outcomes, leaving attendees equipped with advanced skills and knowledge to enhance their professional practice.
