LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) conducted an intensive hands-on workshop on pediatric dentistry, providing dentists with practical training in the diagnosis, treatment planning and clinical management of oral health conditions in children.

Held on July 12 as part of the 21st Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD), the one-day programme focused on strengthening participants' clinical competence through a combination of evidence-based lectures, interactive discussions and supervised practical exercises.

The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Arham Nawaz Chohan, Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at CMH Lahore, who guided participants through the principles of comprehensive treatment planning for pediatric patients. He highlighted the importance of accurate diagnosis, behavioural assessment and individualized treatment planning in achieving successful clinical outcomes while discussing the limitations of initiating treatment without a structured plan.

Participants also received detailed instruction on behavioural management techniques, the appropriate use of antibiotics in children and strategies for delivering safe, patient-centred pediatric dental care.

The practical component of the workshop featured supervised exercises on typhodont models, where participants performed posterior stainless steel crowns and anterior strip crowns while receiving real-time guidance on technique, precision and error correction.

In addition to restorative procedures, the programme covered a wide range of clinical topics, including pulp therapy for primary and young permanent teeth, dental trauma management, apexogenesis, apexification, space management, pulpotomy complications, reattachment of fractured tooth fragments, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) pulpotomy, pediatric local anaesthesia, radiographic assessment and the prevention of iatrogenic complications.

Through interactive case discussions and simulation-based learning, participants enhanced both their theoretical understanding and practical skills in pediatric dentistry.

The workshop concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to gain hands-on experience under expert supervision, reinforcing IADSR's continued commitment to competency-based continuing dental education and high-quality clinical training for dental professionals.
