LAHORE: Keeping in view the rising importance of pediatric dental care, the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) organized an intensive, one-day hands-on workshop on pediatric dentistry, as part of its 18th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD). The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Arham Nawaz Chohan, a distinguished expert and Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at CMH Lahore Medical and Dental College, bringing deep clinical insights and academic excellence to the session.

The workshop provided participants with practical knowledge and essential skills for treating pediatric patients effectively. Prof. Arham initiated the session with a comprehensive discussion on clinical examination and treatment planning in children, emphasizing the advantages of a structured plan and the pitfalls of working without one. Participants explored key principles in pediatric treatment, including the judicious use of antibiotics, behavioral management strategies, and diagnostic techniques essential in pediatric dental care.

A standout feature of the workshop was the hands-on training on pulp therapy in primary dentition—from clinical diagnosis to treatment execution. Participants practiced posterior stainless steel crowns and anterior strip crowns on typhodont models under Prof. Arham’s close supervision. All clinical challenges encountered during the session were addressed with real-time guidance, enhancing learning outcomes.

Further, the facilitator conducted an interactive session on trauma management in both primary and young permanent teeth, with detailed insights into iatrogenic cases, the role of radiography, apexogenesis, apexification, and space maintenance in children. Complex topics such as MTA pulpotomy, complications of pulpotomy in primary molars, reattachment of fractured tooth fragments, and local anesthesia techniques for pediatric patients were covered in-depth.

By the end of the workshop, participants left equipped with the confidence and competence to apply modern pediatric dentistry practices in clinical settings. The workshop successfully met its desired learning outcomes, reinforcing IADSR’s commitment to delivering quality continuing dental education in Pakistan.
