KARACHI: In a remarkable effort to address childhood oral health challenges, the Community Dentistry team of Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC) recently conducted a comprehensive dental health initiative at GBSS Karabhai Karimjee Khadda Lyari Campus, reaching 650 students from nursery to Grade 10.

Under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Haider, Assistant Professor & Head of Community Dentistry, the program combined educational awareness with hands-on dental checkups, teaching students the importance of brushing techniques, preventive care, and overall oral hygiene.

The team included Demonstrators Dr. Arish Sohail and Dr. Aimen Imran, along with House Officers Dr. Shaheer, Dr. Maryam, Dr. UmmeHani, Dr. Tooba, and Dr. Nimrah, who worked closely with school teachers to ensure every child received personal guidance and practical demonstrations using dental models.

School officials praised the initiative, highlighting how early education on oral health can prevent long-term dental problems, encourage healthier habits, and contribute to stronger community health outcomes.

Childhood dental neglect remains a pressing concern in low-resource areas of Pakistan, often leading to cavities, gum disease, and systemic health issues in adulthood. Programs like JMDC’s school outreach bridge the gap between clinical care and education, empowering children to take charge of their oral health from a young age.

By combining professional dental assessments with practical teaching, JMDC is setting a new standard for school-based oral health interventions, inspiring other institutions to adopt similar programs across Karachi and the country.
