JMDC leads oral health awareness session at The City School

KARACHI: The oral health awareness session conducted by the community dentistry department of Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC) brought essential preventive dental education to children at The City School, Bait-ul-Mukarram campus. The initiative, led by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Haider, assistant professor and HOD, reflects JMDC’s commitment to strengthening children’s oral hygiene practices through evidence-based community outreach.

The JMDC team included lecturers Dr. Arish Sohail and Dr. Usman Bukhari, along with house officers (HOs) and support staff. Together, they performed dental check-ups for nearly 180 students from the pre-primary and primary sections, covering children aged 5–12 years.

House officers conducted oral examinations inside individual classrooms, ensuring that every check-up took place in a comfortable, familiar setting and in the presence of class teachers. This approach helped reduce anxiety among children and encouraged open communication about oral hygiene habits.

The session also featured hands-on demonstrations of proper tooth-brushing techniques using dental models. These interactive activities allowed students to visualize brushing angles, motion, and duration—helping them understand the foundations of daily oral hygiene in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.

School leadership commends the initiative

The principal of The City School expressed sincere appreciation for JMDC’s efforts and highlighted the value of early oral health education in shaping lifelong dental habits. The school administration acknowledged the initiative as a meaningful step toward promoting preventive dental care and encouraging children to take ownership of their oral health.

The community dentistry department reaffirmed its commitment to continuing similar evidence-based outreach programs designed to enhance oral health literacy among children and families across Karachi.
