KARACHI: Ziauddin College of Dentistry (ZCD) Principal Prof. Dr. Wahab has felicitated Dr. Maliha and her team, for completing her MPhil in Oral Biology from Ziauddin University, praising their dedication and contributions to dental science.
"We are immensely proud of Dr. Maliha’s success and the impactful contributions her research brings to the field," he stated.
Under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Afifa Razi, Dr. Maliha led the study on the effectiveness of Propolis mouthwash in treating periodontitis, specifically targeting perimenopausal women.
Her research was supported by an expert supervisory team comprising Dr. Saima Qureshi, Dr. Fizz Sehar, and Dr. Ambreen Huma, all faculty members at Ziauddin University.
Titled “Comparative Evaluation of Propolis Mouthwash with 0.2pc Chlorhexidine Mouthwash as an Adjunct to Mechanical Therapy in Improving Periodontitis Among Perimenopausal Women – A Randomized Controlled Trial,” Dr. Maliha’s thesis highlights the potential of Propolis as a viable alternative to conventional Chlorhexidine mouthwash.
The study's results showcased significant improvements in periodontal health with Propolis use.
A key element of her research was the formulation of the Propolis mouthwash, guided by Dr. Ambreen Huma from Ziauddin University’s Department of Pharmacy.
This formulation demonstrated promising outcomes for periodontitis and presents avenues for broader applications in oral health treatments. The trial's findings open doors for future clinical research and practical uses in dental care.
