KARACHI: The Department of Oral Biology at Bahria University Dental College (BUDC, BUHSC) recently organized a wax carving competition for first-year BDS students.

Led by Associate Professor Dr. Beenish Fatima Alam, BUDC Head of the Department of Oral Biology, the event centered around the theme "Human Cells and their Functions," aiming to deepen students' understanding of the subject through an engaging activity that promotes teamwork and artistic expression.

As many as 15 groups, each comprising three to four students, participated in the competition. These groups received guidance from Dr. Madiha Anwar, Dr. Raima Bashir, and Dr. Sumbul Mukhtar, each overseeing five groups.

The judging panel consisted of Dr. Daud Mirza, Professor and Head of Oral Pathology, and Dr. Afsheen Maqsood, Associate Professor of Oral Pathology.

The displays showcased impressive amalgamations of art and science, drawing inspiration from the intricate world of cells. The competition was lauded for its exceptional student submissions, which eloquently portrayed the complexity of cells in visually captivating ways.

The standout entries were the "Mucous Cells Project Group" (Umm-e-Rubab, Sayyam, Zemal) securing the top position, followed closely by the "Pre-secretory Phase Group" (Noreen Batool, Abdul Wadood, Ali Sohaib), and the "Secretory Phase Group" (Tathir, Manal, Junaid) claiming third place.
