Karachi: In order to inculcate oral health awareness among children, the CSP (Community Support Program) team of BUMDC was recently invited by The City School, Bait-ul-Mukaram Branch to carry out an Oral Health awareness session and Dental Checkup for their pupils.
The CSP team was supervised by Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Vice-principal and Head of Preventive and Community Dentistry department and comprised of Dr. Maria Moin, Dr. Raima Bashir & Dr. M. Mohsin Haider (Senior Lecture of Community Dentistry Department) along with Dr. Jannat, Dr. Haider Hayat, Dr. Manahil, Dr. Suleman and Dr. Abdullah Nasir (House Officers).
The CSP team was welcomed by headmistress Madam Naina Gul along with other faculty members. The School consisted of junior section (nursery to grade III) with a total strength of 215 students aged between 3 - 9 years. Half of the students were gathered in their library where Oral Health education session was conducted by Dr. Raima and Dr. Maria. The other half of the students assembled in the playground where tables and chairs had been arranged for conducting dental checkup. The Dental checkup was executed by house-officers and supervised by Dr. Mohsin Haider. The Oral Health education session was performed by interacting with students and facilitated through videos to grab students’ interest and improve their understanding. The students interacted attentively and showed great interest by responding well during the session. Oral hygiene practices such as meticulous tooth brushing techniques were also demonstrated on models for the audience.
During dental checkup, students with dental ailments were identified and treatment was advised for them which were communicated with their parents through their teachers/ headmistress. Oral hygiene kits were distributed to the children at the end of the program. The student with best oral hygiene and beautiful smiles were also presented with appreciation certificates.
The School Headmistress was very pleased with the Oral Health education activity and appreciated the team with kind words of gratitude.
