LAHORE: A two-day workshop on "Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and Splint Therapy" was recently organized by the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) as part of its 17th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD).
Led by Prof. Dr. Saad Mateen, Principal of Faryal Dental College, the workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of TMD and splint therapy.
The opening session provided foundational knowledge on occlusion, with a focus on the centric relationship between maxillary and mandibular teeth, introducing the participants to occlusal adjustments, an essential technique for optimising dental alignment, and discussing the significance of canine guidance in preventing dental issues.
Prof. Mateen explained the anatomy of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), covering aspects such as the articular disc and related disorders, including their causes.
Participants actively engaged in clinical examinations, exploring muscle conditions and disorders associated with the TMJ.
A practical segment on splint fabrication followed, where Prof. Mateen demonstrated techniques before participants practiced hands-on.
During the session, challenges encountered in the fabrication process were also addressed, with Prof. Mateen responding to participants' queries.
