KARACHI: The Department of Community Dentistry at Altamash General Hospital organized a poster competition for second year BDS students, offering a platform for emerging dental professionals to display creativity, scientific knowledge, and public-facing communication skills.

The event, led by HOD Dr. Amir Shaikh and Dr. Naseer Ahmed with organizational support from Dr. Alkesh Kammal, Dr. Nikita Bodani and Dr Anum Ilyas, aimed to raise community oral health awareness and spotlight preventive dentistry through informative visual presentations. Registrations drew enthusiastic participation and the competition showcased a wide range of topics relevant to public oral health.

Students prepared posters on diverse themes related to community oral health and dental care, balancing artistic design with scientific accuracy. Faculty members and judges praised originality, evidence-based content, and clarity of presentation, noting that many entries successfully translated technical concepts into accessible messages for the general public.

The event was honored by chief guests Mr. Hashim Hassan, CEO of Dental News, and Mr. Imad Altamash, CEO of AIDM, whose presence underscored the importance of academic–industry collaboration in dental education. External judges who evaluated the posters and provided constructive feedback included Dr. Hassan Shahid, Dr. Mohsin Haider, Dr. Ujala Faisal, and Dr. Zohaib Younas. Internal judges included Dr. Sheema Farhan, Dr. Rafia Burhan, and Dr. Sobia Hassan.

Organizers credited the smooth execution to the combined efforts of the judging panel and the Department of Community Dentistry team. The poster competition not only encouraged creative thinking but also strengthened students’ ability to communicate vital dental health messages to diverse audiences — a core competency in preventive dentistry and community outreach.

As a result of the competition, participating students gained practical experience in evidence-based health communication and left better prepared to contribute to public oral health initiatives in clinical and community settings.
