RIHS Empowers House Officers Through Leadership Skills Workshop

RAWALPINDI: The Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) has taken another step toward shaping well-rounded healthcare professionals by conducting a focused workshop on leadership development for house officers. The initiative was designed to equip young doctors with essential leadership skills needed to navigate the clinical, administrative, and team-based challenges of modern healthcare.

House officers from various departments participated in the session, which combined conceptual learning with practical engagement to strengthen leadership awareness at an early stage of professional life. The workshop underscored the growing recognition that clinical competence must be complemented by strong leadership and communication abilities.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Saad Asad and Dr. Khaliq Aman Rono, who guided participants through key leadership concepts relevant to healthcare environments. Dr. Khaliq Aman Rono presented an in-depth overview of leadership models, emphasizing flexibility, ethical decision-making, and effective communication as cornerstones of successful leadership in clinical teams. His discussion encouraged house officers to critically examine real challenges faced in hospital settings.

To translate theory into practice, the workshop incorporated interactive discussions, group tasks, and role-based activities. These exercises allowed participants to explore team management, conflict handling, and collaborative problem-solving in scenarios commonly encountered during clinical duties.

Following an interval, Dr. Saad Asad led a practical session focused on actionable strategies for emerging leaders. He addressed common obstacles faced by early-career doctors, particularly in high-pressure healthcare settings, and shared approaches to maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and confidence under stress.

The importance of nurturing leadership skills during training was further highlighted by Dr. Mahjabeen Aftab, who emphasized that early exposure to leadership principles helps develop responsible, self-aware, and ethically driven healthcare professionals.

The workshop concluded with collaborative activities aimed at reinforcing teamwork and shared responsibility.
