Smarter teaching with AI explored at dental college HITEC-IMS workshop

TAXILA: A certified CME-CPD workshop titled “Smarter Teaching with AI: From Learning Objectives to Lecture Delivery” was organized by the dental education department at Dental College HITEC-IMS, Taxila. The session brought together distinguished faculty members from medical and dental colleges to explore the practical application of artificial intelligence in health professions education.

The workshop was conducted under the expert guidance of Professor Dr. Rehan Ahmed Khan, dean of the Riphah Institute of Assessment, who demonstrated the integration of AI-enabled platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Microsoft Copilot, and Canva AI into academic teaching and learning practices.

Participants actively engaged in structured activities, including:

  • Formulating SMART objectives for effective teaching
  • Lesson planning aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy and Gagné’s Nine Events
  • Collaborative group discussions and case-based exercises
  • An interactive question-and-answer session

The session placed strong emphasis on the ethical and responsible use of AI in academia, ensuring that technology enhances learning while preserving educational values. The program concluded with a knowledge assessment, followed by the distribution of a book authored by Prof. Dr. Rehan Ahmed Khan to outstanding participants.

Positive feedback and recognition

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many recommending that AI-focused workshops should become a regular component of faculty development programs in medical and dental colleges.

As a mark of appreciation, dental college HITEC-IMS presented a commemorative shield to Prof. Dr. Rehan Ahmed Khan in recognition of his significant contributions to advancing innovation in education.

This initiative not only illustrated the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in teaching but also reaffirmed HITEC-IMS’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and future-ready healthcare education.
