LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) recently held a comprehensive hands-on workshop on isolation and restoration techniques as part of its 19th professional diploma in advanced general dentistry (PDAGD). The session was led by Dr. Irsam Haider, MCPS operative dentistry, MSc endodontics, and assistant professor at the University of Lahore.
Designed to elevate clinical practice, the workshop combined theory with intensive practice, helping participants strengthen their skills in delivering precise, efficient, and patient-centered restorative dentistry.
Building stronger, more natural restorations
The training opened with cusp buildup techniques, where Dr. Irsam emphasized strategies to restore lost tooth structure without compromising function or aesthetics. He highlighted the importance of correct material selection, layering methods, and finishing protocols for achieving long-lasting, natural-looking results.
Stamp technique delivers accuracy and speed
One of the workshop’s highlights was the stamp technique for posterior restorations. Dr. Irsam demonstrated how this approach replicates natural occlusal anatomy, reducing finishing time while ensuring high accuracy. Participants practiced the method hands-on, gaining insights into its efficiency and clinical value.
Rubber dam mastery for clinical excellence
A significant portion of the session focused on rubber dam isolation, a cornerstone of modern restorative dentistry. Dr. Irsam guided attendees through clamp selection, patient comfort considerations, and troubleshooting common challenges, reinforcing why isolation is vital for accuracy and longevity in dental treatments.
Introducing OptraDam for modern workflows
The workshop also featured OptraDam, an advanced isolation device designed to improve ergonomics and streamline procedures. Dr. Irsam compared it to traditional rubber dam methods, demonstrating its practical advantages in day-to-day practice.
Interactive training with immediate application
Participants were given extensive opportunities to practice under Dr. Irsam’s supervision. Real-time feedback, open discussions, and peer interaction created a highly engaging environment that encouraged skill refinement and confidence building.
By the end of the workshop, dental professionals left equipped with updated knowledge, refined techniques, and the ability to integrate these tools into their clinical routines. The session received enthusiastic feedback, reaffirming IADSR’s commitment to advancing modern, evidence-based dental education in Pakistan.
