CHPE cohort launched at LCMD to empower dental educators

KARACHI: The Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD) successfully launched its Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) program with a dynamic three-day contact session for Batch 1 – Cohort B, aimed at enhancing teaching capabilities of dental educators.

Held from June 30 to July 2, 2025, the session featured intensive, interactive training modules covering key domains of educational theory, lesson planning, learning styles, and AI integration in health professions education. The program reflects LCMD's growing commitment to building evidence-based, student-centered, and digitally enabled teaching practices.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Principal Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi, who set an inspiring tone, while CHPE Course Director Prof. Dr. Tahera Ayub welcomed participants and introduced the course overview.

Key sessions and highlights:

  • Dr. Rahat Naz, Director HR & Establishment at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), engaged with participants on their expectations and delivered a lecture on professional portfolios.
  • Prof. Dr. Kausar, Chairperson of IME-JSMU, led an insightful session on learning theories, coupled with a hands-on activity to contextualize theoretical principles.
  • Dr. Tahera introduced learning styles through practical exercises that deepened participant engagement and knowledge retention.
  • Prof. Dr. Naheed Najmi, Vice Principal of LCMD, conducted a workshop on SMART learning objectives aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy, reinforcing outcomes-based education.
  • Dr. Ayesha Khurram explained Mayer’s Multimedia Principles, helping participants improve instructional design and PowerPoint effectiveness.
  • Dr. Rooha Sultan, Assistant Professor at JMDC, delivered a creative session on Digital Storytelling, encouraging participants to craft narrative-based learning tools.
  • Prof. Dr. Shams Nadeem Alam, Director of Medical Education at Baqai Medical University, led a forward-looking workshop on the use of AI in education, showcasing real-time applications and tools.
  • Dr. Sabaa Shahid introduced Team-Based Learning (TBL) and the flipped classroom model, offering practical insights for large-group instruction.
  • The program concluded with an impactful session by Prof. Dr. Naheed Najmi on lesson planning frameworks, inspiring thoughtful instructional design and curriculum planning.

Throughout the session, the CHPE team ensured a supportive learning environment with refreshments, peer discussion, and academic encouragement—demonstrating LCMD's dedication to faculty development and professional growth.

This milestone initiative reinforces LCMD's leadership in advancing health professions education in Pakistan and equipping dental faculty with tools for transformative teaching.
